The View from RODA
This sounds like an excellent opportunity and I would like to get involved even if it’s only from our organizations point of view.
The type of work we do here at RODA requires at certain times for myself or my co-worker to work with social workers who are involved with some of our families. This can range from attending core group meetings right through to supporting grandparents who have taken on the responsibility of their grandchildren due to drug or alcohol misuse.
Since becoming an assessor through the consortium I have had six placements now and their input has been wonderful and all have said how valuable they thought their placements here were to show them what it is like from the extended family perspective.
I am also pleased to say that out of the six four have stayed with RODA since finishing their placements, two have become trustees and sit on our management committee and two volunteer their time supporting families and carers within the organization.
The work involved within the voluntary sector that we are a part of should play an integral part of a social work students learning and I for one hope that it will continue for many years to come.
